The Belgian Association is at the forefront of the
European
Association in Dubai
The story behind it: Piet Bekaert had sadly realized how the
concept of "European Union citizenship" was totally absent in Dubai.
In June 2001, he decided to create the European Association in
Dubai. All the chair(wo)men of the different EU social clubs
established in Dubai were called for a common meeting. Since then,
the coordination of this association has been rotating on a 6
monthly basis between the chairmen of the club whose home country is
holding the Presidency of the EU.
Furthermore, it was strongly suggested that each national
association should try to invite another country at their events, in
order to share their culture and get to know each other better.
And finally, a mailing list called europedbx was created, allowing
to share relevant information.
